Pigging refers to a type of maintenance practice for pipelines using ‘pipeline poly pigs’, for cleaning of pipeline without stopping the operation of the pipeline. Pipeline pigs are capsule shaped objects which travel through the pipeline, cleaning the inner walls of the pipeline by scraping the walls. The term “pigging” refers to this method of cleaning pipeline.
The pig is inserted into a pig launcher, which uses pressure differential to launch the pig into the pipe run and uses existing flow to force the pig through the pipe, pushing debris ahead of it.
